Obituary of Pearl Killingbeck

KILLINGBECK, PEARL

October 4, 1938 – June 19, 2024

Pearl Killingbeck (nee TOLHURST), 85, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024, at Moira’s Place Long Term Care Home in Tweed, Ontario.  Beloved wife of 49 years to the late Kent Killingbeck; cherished mother of Rick Killingbeck (Barbara), Sharon Killingbeck (Dale), and Pamala Lemke (Richard). Loving grandmother to Brandy, Brad, Alex, Shauna, Amber, Rob, Lisa, and Holly; with 11 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by her brother Ken Tolhust (Annie) and sister June Cormier (Roger). Pearl is predeceased by her mother Ivy Warner and sister Phyllis Tolhurst.

Pearl was born in Brighton, England on October 4, 1938. She came to Canada in June 1946 with her mother (a war bride) and brother. The family settled in the small village of Cherry Valley, Ontario. In her early years she was a babysitter before she began working in the maternity ward of a hospital at the age of 16. At the age of 18, Pearl married Kent on October 6, 1956, and settled in the hamlet of Mississippi Station, Ontario to raise their family. Pearl was a devoted mother and homemaker who delighted in organizing card games at her home and hosting friends and family for events such as toboggan parties and hunting season gatherings.

Pearl lived her life to the fullest. She loved attending music festivals, camping at Lett’s, traveling in her old RV with polished bull horns mounted on the front, and spending evenings playing at the casino. She loved dining out and going on excursions with her friends. She revelled in listening to the timeless classics of Charley Pride, Buck Owens and of course, the legendary Elvis Presley. Her vivacious spirit and infectious laughter touched the lives of all who knew her.

A celebration of Pearl’s life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Snowmobile Club in Snow Road, Ontario from 10:00am – 2:00pm. A luncheon will be provided by the Snow Road Snowmobile Club in conjunction with the Snow Road Community Centre. Immediately following the celebration of life, a graveside service will be held at Crawford’s Cemetery located at 80 Lavant Mill Road, McDonald’s Corners, Ontario.  Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors, Perth.
