Obituary of Clifford James Johnston
After battling with many health issues over the years, the Lord has finally called Clifford home to rest on August 30th, 2024, from the Perth Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Catherine (nee Emon) Johnston for over 55 years, and the loved father of Andrew (Charlene) of Lansdowne, Thomas Glen, Victoria (Thomas Lalonde) of Lanark and Sharon Emon (unofficially adopted daughter) of Renfrew. Clifford was the cherished grandfather of Cole, Rebecca, Thomas, Joseph, Ida, Elizabeth, Miriam, John, Amos and Esther. Dear brother of Gwen (late Eric Gibson), Glenn Johnston (Beverley) and sister-in-law of Wilda (late Harris Jr. Johnston). Clifford is survived by his in-laws Victor Emon (Anna Mary), Connie Emon (late Andy), Eric Emon and Penny Tough (Bill). He was predeceased by Margaret (Willis Hartwick), his Twin sister Beth, and parents Harris Samuel and Mabel Bell (nee Wall), also predeceased by his in-laws Betty (Frank Senack), Billy Emon (Gertie), Thelma (Tony Senack), Frankie Emon (Agnes), Ray Emon (Edna), Lawrence and Loretta Emon, Keith Emon (Ruth), Earl Emon (Shirley), and Janet. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Clifford was a man that learned not by books, but by the work of his hands. He was never afraid to work or give a helping hand to those who asked. He worked for DA Carson's for many years then, at the Brown Shoe Warehouse.
Clifford was not a rich man when it came to money, but he knew he was rich when he had his wife beside him. They had their share of troubles, but always held on to each other. His three children didn't only see him as a father, but also as a hero growing up. Clifford was also rich with grandchildren that adored him and were always proud to have walked beside him. They saw him as a grandpa that could fix anything. They could always find him in the garage tinkering and humming happily. He is now tinkering and humming happily in heaven. We are blessed to have loved him for so long and to have know a truly rich man.
So, let's not say goodbye, but see you soon when we meet on that beautiful shore.
A graveside ceremony to honour Clifford's life will be held at Hopetown Cemetery 5526 Highway 511, Hopetown, on Monday, September 9th, 2024 at 1:00pm. In memory of him, memorial contributions to the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation - Perth Site would be appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Home, Perth.
