It is with a heavy heart full of love that we announce the passing of David ‘Wayne’ Roberts, who passed away peacefully in his 72nd year, surrounded by family, at the Great War Memorial Hospital in Perth, Ontario, the morning of Wednesday, September 18th, 2024.
Born and raised by his loving parents, Ernest (predeceased) and Annie (née MacDonald), in Baddeck, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Wayne carried the values of his upbringing throughout his life. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sherry (née Beaudoin), and his children Matthew (Michelle), Abby Armstrong (David), and Quincy (Dakota). Wayne was the proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: Hunter, Lily, Matheson, Wes, Foster, Finley, Allie, Kingsley, Wayne, and Shephard, who he doted on at every opportunity and who will forever treasure the moments they shared with their Grampie.
Wayne will be dearly missed by his beloved mother Annie, and five siblings, Sharon MacRae (David), Ernest (Francine), Larry (Christine), Glenn, and Jesslyn Roberts-Smith (Robert). His extended family, Dave Cruikshank, Pat and Tanis Cordick, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will always hold him close in their hearts. His loyal dog, Annie, who never left his side, will deeply miss him.
Wayne spent his early career with Bell and Northern Telecom (Nortel), with his later years working as a carpenter and residential site superintendent in Ottawa and the surrounding area. An avid sports fan, Wayne loved cheering on his Toronto Maple Leafs and watching Sunday football. Wayne could also be found many days outside enjoying tending to his vegetable garden or inside in the kitchen perfecting his biscuit recipe. Known for his warmth, humour, and quick wit, Wayne was always ready to listen, offer advice, and share a laugh. He was sincere, helpful, and genuinely interested in those around him, embodying the qualities we all aspire to have. Wayne’s life touched so many, and those fortunate enough to have known him are better for it. He taught us to be true to ourselves, to embrace our imperfections, and to find laughter in difficult times. His guidance, wisdom, and kindness left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and doctors who cared for Wayne throughout his journey, with special thanks to his little sister Jesslyn for her loving care and compassion in his final days.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024 at the Perth Lions Hall, located at 50 Arthur Street, Perth, Ontario, K7H 3E3, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will be a time to share stories, celebrate his life, and find comfort in the company of family and friends.

Wayne’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will continue through random acts of kindness and lending a helping hand—even if the cut is too wide or the measurement too short.
