Obituary of Cynthia Ruth Reid

Reid, Cynthia Ruth

March 18, 1924 to September 19, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cynthia “Ruth” Reid, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, who peacefully entered into her final rest on September 19th 2024 at the remarkable age of 100.

Born on March 18th, 1924, in Toronto, Ontario, Ruthie lived through a century of extraordinary change and growth, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of everyone she encountered. Music was the heartbeat of Ruthie’s life. She had a lifelong passion for singing, which brought her great happiness and touched the lives of many. Her singing career began as a girl of eighteen, when she joined a group of young men and women who sang for the troops returning home from war.  Ruthie went on to sing with the Mendelson Choir in Toronto, and later had great joy singing with the Altonatives in Perth.  Her talent and passion for music will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of hearing her sing.

Ruthie was predeceased by her parents, William and Jesse Young, and by her long-time companion Jarvis Crain. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathie Reid, her grandchildren, Jessica Raminsh (Michael Bingley) and Rob Raminsh (Anne Marie), and by her 5 great-grandchildren, Callum and Ella Anderson, Aiden, Austin and Isaac Raminsh.

Ruthie’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers and friends who supported her in her final years, especially to the wonderful staff at Perth Community Care Centre.

A gathering will be held at Blair and Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W., Perth on Friday October 11th, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., where family and friends are invited to celebrate and honor Ruthie’s remarkable life.

Ruthie’s voice may be silent now, but her song will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace and harmony.
