Obituary of William Derek Lundy

Lundy, William Derek

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Derek Lundy.

On October 18th, 2024, Bill, as he would say, “crossed over to the other side”, in Kingston Ontario, after fighting a nearly three-month battle with a very rare illness. His family would like to express their gratitude to the brilliant and compassionate health care teams at both the Great War Memorial Hospital and Kingston General Hospital for all their unwavering effort and support.

Bill was born on October 26th, 1962, to Charles William Lundy and Marilyn Joyce (nee Brown) Lundy. He was raised in Brighton, Ontario as the baby of the family with his three siblings Steven, Lorna, and Kathy. On April 25th, 1992, Bill married Connie-Gail (nee Hierlihy) Lundy in Nova Scotia. Together they moved to Perth, Ontario, where they settled into their home and raised their family. The two best days of his life were the births of his children: his son, Derek Lundy, and daughter, Olivia (nee Lundy) Bowes.

Bill was a lover of all things surrounding food, laughter, family, old cars, and animals. He was a patient, kind, and gentle soul and his memory will live on through those who loved him the most. Bill always said the most important thing in life was to do one small act of kindness each day.

Bill is survived by many family who loved and continue to love him dearly: his wife Connie, his children Olivia (Taylor Bowes) and Derek, his siblings: Steven, Lorna, and Kathy (Lyle Mutton), his in-laws: Jeannette and Lawrence Hierlihy, Tanya (David Kennedy), Garry, Terry (Jo-Ann), and Billy Hierlihy, and his nieces and nephews: Anya, Evan, Danielle, Jordan, Billy, Jocelyn, Loegan, Kelsey, Dallis, Quinton, and Kalem. Bill will be reunited in death with his parents, Charles and Marilyn, and dogs Hanna, Boo, and Taffy. As his father would say, “may the winds of good fortune always blow strong in your sails”.

In lieu of flowers, any donations can be directed to the Lanark Animal Welfare Society. A private funeral service will be held Wednesday October 23rd, followed by a gathering open to the public to honour Bill at the Blair and Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. Perth from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
