Dear Carol, Ellen and all of William's extensive family,
I was so sorry to hear of his passing. The subject line of the email from Ellen said "My brother William". My heart sank before opening it. I first knew "Billy" as Ken and Ellen's little brother, two cottages down, back in the 60's - we were all kids. Although most of my years since were spent on the west coast, a piece of my heart was at Otty Lake. During trips back to visit my family I was lucky enough to meet Carol and spend some time with Billy, now William. The sense of humour, teasing and friendliness mentioned by others were all things running through my mind after reading Ellen's email. He was waayy too young to go from my old man perspective. During my Mum's last years at the cottage, without Dad, Carol, William and Ellen were precious friends and helpers, spending time and effort to make sure she was safe and comfortable. A highlight was an extensive boat tour down the lake and back with Captain William. I am so sorry for our loss of this excellent man and grateful for knowing him.

To Carol and Family
I am very proud to be able to call myself one of Bills friends. We meet many years ago when I was looking for someone to raise the roof and build a room above an attached garage. That work exceeded my expectations. Bill did many projects here sometimes with me as his apprentice (gofer). The projects were mostly in July so he could quickly get to his dock seat in the water when we were done for the day. He turned my visions into reality. I was in awe of his ability and skill and enjoyed his ribbing and sense of humor. I will miss him.
I am very sorry for your loss

I speak about Bill as a client who became a friend.
As a contractor, Bill had extraordinary ability and judgement in a wide range of technical matters
relating to the building trades. His design and execution of these was amazing. He had a genuine love and respect for WORK! Give him a proposal, a measuring tape and a pencil behind his ear and he was off to the races: ladders, nails and paint transformed into an attractive, functional room! With good humour, precision and and respect for his clients, he enjoyed working independently or with trusted, long-experienced colleagues.
Dwelling on a lakeshore, he loved and understood the natural world - from apple trees to tulips – even my cat! His practical talents included roasting Christmas and Thanksgiving turkeys and organizing winter road maintenance. His creative talents included costuming for football games - crazy hats and props to encourage the RedBlacks. His preparation for lavish outdoor Christmas decorations began in September! With sincere dedication to Carol and his extended family, his neighbours and friends, he was always conscientious and generous.
Bill was a unique and very special person who embraced life. He will always be an inspiration to me and my family.

What a shock to hear of Bill’s passing. We are so sorry for your loss…. Bill will be missed.
Otty lake shares so many childhood memories … many summer days of playing in sand piles and swimming to the raft, boating around the bay…. Bill never left the place that he loved.

My deepest condolences go out to the Carol & the family. I meet Bill as a fellow season seat holder for the Redblacks. He had become a fixture at the games as the guy with the funny hats & signs. His passion was contagious & a reason to attend above the excitement of the game. Helped create many memories whether it's presiding over trivia at an away game party or creating an on running joke giving my best bud a new nickname("Classic Audrey").
You will be missed.

Sending our deepest sympathy to all Bill's family and friends. We have fond memories of Bill, especially all the times we played cards and hung out at our house on Brock Street. Although we had lost touch over the years, he was kind enough to reach out to Mom when we lost Mike and we were so pleased that he and Carol were able to celebrate Mike's life with us at Pike Lake. He will be greatly missed. Mary, Diane, Patti Lyn, and Lisa McNamee

I first met Bill when we moved to Perth in 1967, our friendship built in high school playing Basketball and soccer. We then were roommates while attending St Lawrence Collage in Kingston and playing for the varsity soccer team .I have attached a photo of Bill and good friend Stephen Cox on opening weekend at "Juniper Junction" back in the '80s. Bill was always there when I needed help. He will be greatly missed
