Obituary of Martha Elizabeth Read

It is with great sadness that we announce that Martha Read, mother and grandmother, passed away suddenly and peacefully November 1st, 2024, at the age of 72.

Born in the town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, and raised in both Cardiff, Ontario and Peterborough, Ontario.

Daughter of the late John Wallace Laut and Josephine Elizabeth Laut (Golden). Beloved mother to daughters Caity Elizabeth Buchanan (Kevin Buchanan) and Jamie Lee Read. Cherished Nana of Keira Grace Buchanan, Violet Jane Buchanan and Brinley Read.

Martha will be dearly missed by her siblings Jane Laut, David Laut, Louise Laut- Jordan and Kathy Gard (deceased). Martha will also be dearly missed and remembered by her extended family and friends, including many nieces and nephews and her cousins in Muskoka.

From a young age, Martha had a natural talent for drawing portraits, painting landscapes in water colour and a love of the arts. She studied Fine Art at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario.

Martha was an avid and voracious reader and was a regular visitor of the Perth library.

She will be fondly remembered and missed by the staff and residents of Rideau Ferry Country Home. The family is heartened to know how well liked and popular she was there.

The family will be celebrating Martha’s life in private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martha’s name can be made to the Perth and District Union Public Library or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
