Obituary of Jean Carson
Carson, Bessie “Jean”
Jean passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side at the Perth Site of the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, at the age of 82. She was the beloved wife and best friend of David for 60 years, and the wonderful, devoted mother to Shawn (Darlene) and Paul (Nicole). Jean was the cherished grandmother to Dylan, Brittany (Damon Currie), Jayden, Abby and Courtney, and the great-grandmother to Lowyn Currie. She was the loved sister of Gail (Grant McFarlane) and was predeceased by her brother Gilbert Rancier. Jean will be fondly remembered by her brothers and sisters-in-law; Carolyn (late Robert Gilchrist), Arlyn (late Allan McMillan), Donalda Carson, Kenny (Karen McPherson), John (Brenda), the late Susan Carson, and Wendy (Lee Moncrieff). She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Jean graduated from Ottawa Teachers College in 1961, and in September of that year she began teaching at the age of 18. She received a B.A. in psychology from the University of Waterloo. She and David married in 1964 and remained in the Perth area for all of their 60 years married together. Jean retired in 1996 from teaching in many schools in and around the Perth area (Almonte, Queen Elizabeth and Stewart School in Perth, Maple Grove in Lanark, Glen Tay School, and Caldwell School in Carleton Place). Following her retirement, she ran an antiques and collectibles business “Hometown Antiques”. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Church and volunteered on many church committees. She also volunteered at the Perth Fair. Jean was kind and generous and had a great sense of humour. She maintained beautiful flower gardens, researched family genealogy, and enjoyed many wonderful trips with David, her family and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. Perth, on Monday, December 2nd, 2024 from 11:00am until the time of Jean’s funeral ceremony in the chapel at 2:00pm. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
