December 25, 1924 - October 14, 2011
Passed away peacefully at Rosebridge Manor on Friday, October 14, 2011 at the age of 86. Beloved husband and best friend for 62 years of Lydia (Bespalko). Del is survived by his sisters-in-law, Betty Lackey (Casselman), Charlotte Casselman, Ann Deimert (Louie), and Violet Daw; brother-in-law John Bespalko (Nola), as well as many nieces, nephews, and his many other extended family. Del was predeceased by his parents Donald and Edith (Cardwell), his brothers Fred, Erwin, Edwin, his twin brother Albert Casselman and his sister Gladys McIntyre. Del's military career spanned more than five years as a Merchant Marine during WWII. His courage was awarded with medals of bravery after surviving two of his ships going down during battle. Following the war, Delbert and Lydia were married on October 14, 1949 in Vancouver BC. Not long after their marriage, they moved to the Merrickville area where they lived for more than 60 years. During that time, Del was employed by the Ministry of Correctional Services as a Steam Engineer until his retirement on July 22, 1982. The family would like to thank the staff at Rosebridge Manor for their kindness, caring, and understanding throughout Del's stay. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 12 noon until the time of the Service in the Chapel at 1 o'clock. Interment will take place at Sandy Hill Cemetery, in Prescott.
