I got to know Bill about 9 years ago thought the internet. Since then, he has contributed many many photos to my website. We both shared the same passion, our love for trains. Bill also provided me with lots of printed material from his extensive collection, some free of charge. Bill was always a very informative and cooperative person, who will be greatly missed within the railway community online, as well as trackside. Dear Bill, rest in peace my friend! I met Bill at Smiths Falls back in 1996 and have rarely met such a fine gentleman. He had a tremendous collection of railway photos and negatives that he willingly shared with Wilco, Mark and many other friends who requested them. He also shared via email and we kept in touch on and off through the years. We rarely talked about private matters and focused on our common love of railway subjects. Bill has done a lot to further the information and photos available to everyone with an interest in railways. I did not know he had these sorts of health issues and am saddenned and shocked to learn about his passing. Thank you for letting us know. It was truly an honour and a privelege to have known you Bill. You will never be forgotten.

The Bytown Railway Society is saddened to learn of the passing of bill, a longtime member of the Society. Bill will be sorely missed by the railfan fraternity, especially those who knew him as a "fixture' around Smiths Falls station, along with his trusty camera. I was shocked to hear about the passing of Bill. I always looked forward to Friday's, because that's when Bill would send another photo of trains to everyone by email. I will miss that, he took excellent photo's and I told him that when I saw him at Smith Falls train station. I went to the Smith Falls train station at least once a week, and most times Bill was there. He would tell me what was coming in, where it was going, and what it was carrying, and what time it was coming in. I was shocked to hear about the passing of Bill. I always looked forward to Friday's, because that's when Bill would send another photo of trains to everyone by email. I will miss that, he took excellent photo's and I told him that when I saw him at Smith Falls train station. I went to the Smith Falls train station at least once a week, and most times Bill was there. He would tell me what was coming in, where it was going, and what it was carrying, and what time it was coming in. Bill sure knew how to take pictures of trains, and not just in Smith Falls, but all across Canada. I will miss you Bill. John Hopkins
