Obituary of Lydia Casselman

Casselman, Lydia October 10, 1927 - March 18, 2012 Passed away peacefully at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital, Smiths Falls Site, on Sunday March 18, 2012 at the age of 85. Predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Delbert in October 2011. Lydia is survived by her brother John (Nola) Bespalko and her sisters Ann (Louie) Deimert and Violet Daw as well as sisters-in-law Betty Lackey (nee Casselman) and Charlotte Casselman, as well as many nieces and nephews and her many other extended family. Lydia was predeceased by her parents Eli and Palahna (nee Kirilyuk) Bespalko, her brothers Alexander, Peter, Daniel and Edward Bespalko. Lydia was born on the family farm near Wheatstone, Saskatchewan. While working at the Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon she met Delbert, the love of her life. They were subsequently married on October 14, 1949 in Vancouver, BC. Not long after their marriage they moved to the Merrickville area where they lived for more than 60 years. Lydia and Delbert resided at Rosebridge Manor from January 2005 until their passing. The family would like to thank the staff at Rosebridge Manor for their kindness, caring, and understanding for Lydia and Delbert. Special thanks as well to Doctor Conway and the staff at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital for their compassionate care. Friends may pay their respects at Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls, on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home at 11 o'clock. There will be a spring interment at the Sandy Hill Cemetery in Prescott, at a later date. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
