Bird, Ivan Herbert WWII Veteran May 19, 1919 - June 26, 2012 Following a brief illness in his 94th year, Ivan Bird passed away peacefully in hospital in Perth with family at his side. Adoring husband for over 65 years to Elizabeth Grace (Dunfield) Bird, loving father to son, Stephen (Jane), caring step-grandfather to Lesley and Becky Walker and playful step great-grandfather to Morgan and Simon, Ivan is also survived by his sisters, Maisie (the late Rob) Ross of St. Catharines, Gloria (Hugh) Bates of Brockville and brother, Dr. Gordon (Ruby) of Brockville, and loved nieces and nephews. Ivan contributed to his community in many ways, including active membership in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and Kiwanis Club. Over his long life, he took great pleasure in numerous sporting activities such as golf, hockey, lacrosse and enjoyed walking and long drives in the countryside. A well-respected business manager for various companies and organizations in the area, Ivan formed many lasting friendships and appreciated sharing family news with his coffee buddies in recent years. Ivan's service to others began early in his life and continued to the end. He was a loyal friend and a very caring family man, asking little for himself but always offering his help to others in need. A wise and fun loving man who will be greatly missed by those who knew him well. In keeping with Ivan's wishes, visitation will be held at Blair and Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3:15 p.m. In memory of Ivan, please consider a donation to St. Andrew's House, a project of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Perth, to help provide support to community youth.
