Dear Kerri
There is really nothing I can say that will lessen the saddness that you and Rory and your family are feeling at Steve's passing.
Steve has fought the fine fight and come off victorious. Please know that I will continue to keep you in my prayers. And may you realize that the greatest gift you gave to one another is reflected in the life of Rory, an amazing young man who lost his dad all too soon.

Donny thought very highly of Steve, he often spoke of him, as Mike kept him up to date on his progress. He always said that Steve was a really good guy, and one of his best men, he was deeply saddened at his passing. Although I did not know Steve, or ever met him, I can tell by my husbands reaction to his death, that he was a great guy, a good man, husband, and father. We are so sorry for your and Rory's loss, and hope that your love, and memories of Steve, will give you strength, at this very difficult time....

Bully on my right
Ten years ago I met a fellow named Steve or Bully as time went on.We worked together forty plus hours a week.I had been there six years and was by chance chosen to show Bully what we would be doing day to day. This would turn out to be the beginning of amazing time. Before long forty plus hours a week did not seem to be enough so we would often kick back at the end of a day or on weekends and shoot the breeze and throw back the odd pint 3,5,7 and just enjoy the moment. Before too long we could tell what the other was thinking before a word was spoken.I have enough stories to go on for ever but I will keep them for now.I was given a wonderful gift of friendship that I thought would never be cut short.I will have the memories of the fellow who always seemed to be on my right.
Bully on my right
Until we ride again
Always on your left Mikey

The Best Ringette Coach
In the winter of the 90’s Kerri approached me and asked if I would join her Ringette team. We practiced every Sunday at the old Smiths Falls Memorial Centre. Now the fly in the ointment was that I had not skated since I was 10 years old. You should have seen the look on Kerri and Steve’s faces when they saw that I could not stop on my skates. It like they where watching a train wreck. Kerri took me aside and said "Steve has asked me to show you how to stop”. I am sure he said "Kerri go show her how to skate, before she wipes out our team and breaks something”. So with some extra lessons and a few eye rolls, they manage to teach me not to hurt anyone.
Well the annual Silver Spoon Competition came and our team was ready to go with Steve as our coach and yes me as their secret weapon. I do not mean that in a good way. Well during final game we were up against the OTTAWA KNIGHTS. These girls must have been on steroids; our tallest girl was short compared to them. The first two periods went really well. The last period was not so good. Steven sent me out on the ice to play defense. I was teamed up with a girl of similar talent, if that was possible. I skated around her and passed the ring to a teammate at the other end of the ice. I was so proud. Well then it happen the Ottawa Knight coach switch a different player to team up with me, the next time I was on the ice. Wow this girl could skate. We went into the corner for the ring. I was in was fighting for the ring like miner digging for the last piece of gold. Then it happened, she took her elbow and drove it into my chest as hard as she could. I landed on the ice so hard I could see stars. Well just like that I was on my feet chasing this girl down the ice, yelling what I was going to do with the ringette stick. I could hear Steve yelling "Kerri, Kerri get Cathy off the ice, she is going to use the stick on her”!!! When I return to the bench with help, my teammate and Steve were laughing so hard they could not see for tears. Then I started laughing. Years after that, everytime I saw Steve I could see in his smile that day.
Thank you Steve and Kerri for that memory. It was a pleasure to know Steve and I will always have a place in my heart for him. You are in our hearts and prayers.
Blessed are they who have the gift of making friends, for it is one of
God's greatest gifts.
It involves many things, but above all the power of going out of
one's self and appreciating what is noble and loving in another.
- Thomas Hughes
