Obituary of Charles Rexford Worthen

Worthen, Charles R. WWII Veteran Former Owner, President & C.E.O of the Canadian Banknote, Ottawa, Ontario Passed away peacefully at Lanark Lodge, Perth on Sunday, March 7, 2010 in his 89th year. Beloved husband and best friend of Lois (Munro) for over 33 years. Loving father of Nancy Worthen (Keith Perrett) and Ann Van Alstine. Cherished grandfather of Elizabeth, Sarah, William and Stephen Worthen-Perrett, and Katie, Peter and Krissy Van Alstine. Charles was predeceased by his brother Bob and his first wife Mary (Ward). He will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Madge Worthen, his niece Louise (Dave) Nemeth, his great niece Amber (Ryan) Baumbach and great-nephew Kyle (Karen) and his great-great niece Madeleine. Charles' extended family always included Lois' side of the family, of which would be her sister Jean (Gary) Ivens, and her brothers Don (Susan) Munro, and Ewen (Patricia) Munro and their children, Kelly (Greg) Connell, Reid Ivens, James (Jeanine) Munro, the late Janna Bovin, and Fay and Fiona Munro. During Charles' life he and Lois developed many special friendships with Patti and Greg Fleming, Perry and Clare Safford, along with their dog "Willie", Elna Pfeiffer and Jim Baxter, and Catherine Smith. Charles was a veteran of WWII, being a soldier with the Black Watch Regiment and like many was proud to serve his country. Later in life he became the Owner, President and C.E.O. of the Canadian Banknote where he developed many business and personal relationships. During his working career, he also was an avid golfer in his leisure time, making many holes-in-one and being the Club Champion at the Brockville Golf and Country Club and the Royal Ottawa Golf and Country Club. He and his devoted wife Lois and their precious cat "Sam" enjoyed many wonderful times at their home on the Rideau as well as their home in Florida during the winter months. Lois and her family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Doctors and all staff at Lanark Lodge for their tremendous care and concern for Charles over the last number of years. Friends are welcome to gather at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W., Perth on Friday, March 12, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service to celebrate Charles' life in the Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place privately at a later date. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Lanark County or the Lanark Lodge Memorial Fund.
