His lifetime career as Drum Instructor for all the Militia and Regular forces, for the Canadian forces School of Music, which also included the Air Command Pipes and Drums, Rockcliffe, allowed him to travel across Canada, northern USA and much of Europe, making many lifetime friends along the way. After retiring he continued teaching and playing with area pipe bands, influencing and mentoring many future Canadian champions. During a trip to Comrie, Scotland, twin town of Carleton Place, Ontario, he met and 'stole' the love of his life Kate. He will be sadly missed by his faithful Border Collie "Dixie", many friends, all his relatives in Scotland, especially his mother-in-law Ina. Predeceased by his parents Leslie and Gladys, sisters Marion and Mona and his daughter Janice. As per John's instructions, funeral arrangements are private.
