I just this past few days learned of Tom’s passing.
I have very entertaining memories of Tom through working with him over 20 years in our agency crossovers and through his involvement with Otty Lake Association.
He was a big character. Condolences to the family.

My condolences to Tom's family, for Tom truly was a force of nature. Rarely have I met a person of such dogged determination; sense of purpose and strength of character, never shy to offer an opinion and challenge us all. A big man with a big heart and generous spirit, Tom supported & contributed much to our local community. I'll miss Toms' ideas & stories that spanned our great nation, including the national parks and historic sites with which we both shared part of our careers. Heck, I'll even miss his pounding on the table over things about which he felt strongly, interspersed with the odd wink, hearty laugh and good cheer shared among friends. Shortly after Tom's passing, I came across the attached photo of a pair of loons that Tom & I encountered while chatting at his Otty Lake cottage one summers' day. It immediately made me feel that Tom and Pats' souls have finally joined each other once again.

My heartfelt condolences to all of Tom's family and his vast circle of friends as we mourn the loss of Tom. He was very dear to me, larger than life in many ways and I speak on of his physique but of his energy and continual support and generosity especially for The Station Theatre of which I had the privilege of working with him during his many years as a board member. He was so proud of our theatre, he even went to Stratford and spoke of it. You can view it on our theatre website: https://smithsfallstheatre.com/about-us/ - a place where he'll be forever commemorated. I will miss him so very much and am still in shock that he is gone. He gave so much to our town and so many organizations. I will miss his hugs, YES hugs. I'm so glad I had a chance to know him. I am unable to attend the visitation but please know that he will always have a place in my heart.

We first met Pat and Tom in 1963 in Noranda. Paul and I were newly weds and Paul had landed a job as a mining engineer with Noranda Mines. We became fast friends with the Foulkes, Pat following me through my pregnancy with twins and Tom giving us valuable advice on investing amongst other things! We enjoyed many evenings together as well as hikes and picnics in the north country bush. After a year we were transferred from Noranda west. Over the years we always kept in touch with the Foulkes but only saw them on rare occasions, yet when we did meet it was as though we had never been apart. We will miss you Tom, as we do Pat. A more community spirited couple would be hard to find.

Sending strength, love and hugs to Tom’s family. A number of years ago Tom and Pat made their way across the country in their camper. They set up shop in our Edmonton driveway for a few days. We’d just put in a new bathroom in the basement. Tom’s bragging rights were that he was in fact the first person to use the shower! A man with a heart as big as himself!

My heartfelt sympathies to Tom & Pat's children & grandchildren. This is a big loss but I can assure you neither of those special people will be forgotten and many are consoled by the thought that Tom is with Pat again. It was such an honour to know & work with Pat & Tom for 20 years. Tom made me laugh because he would always challenge me with a twinkle in his eye. I can still hear his voice. And Pat … well I still miss her. They were a huge part of my career at IG and they welcomed me into their home & cottage from day one. In a word, irreplaceable. I am the one who is honoured. Thank you for sharing your family with me.

I met Mr. Foulkes once, by chance, and had a very brief conversation with him. He left such a big impression on me that I have often thought of him since. Those who loved him greatly will feel a tremendous loss but perhaps there will be some consolation in knowing he touched so many and will continue to be thought of. My sympathies to all.

During the late 1980s when I was living north of Ottawa I would drop by the Foulkes house to see my god mother Pat. That is when I got to know Tom. Over the various visits (including to Smith Falls house and the cabin) Tom always had valuable advice and things he had learned in life that he shared with me as I started my adult life. Ever since I think of Tom as a "explainer" of life.

Tom was the front face of the Pat/Tom team, a team that strove for improvements in the arts, education and health care fields in our community and made our lives better as a result. While Tom will no longer be here to remind us and to continue to promote the strengths of the community in which we live, his and Pat's legacy will live on--at the theatre, in our hospital, in our library and in his church. May God bless him as he and Pat reunite.

I had the pleasure of working with Tom and his family for the past 5 years.
As a caregiver to Tom I have seen him through a lot of great times and some not so great!
I learned a great deal about Tom personally and his life as a husband, father and grandparent
There never seemed to be a dull moment in the Foulkes household!
Tom was full of life and generosity. Tom favourite place was being at the cottage doing the hobbies he loved.
Donna, Melanie, Mathew and all his wonderful grandchildren meant the world to him and last but not least Pat.
Deepest condolences and prayers to all of the family.
RIP Tom you will be missed by all.

I was so honoured to have Tom in my life. We walked grief's path together... sharing so much of ourselves, our stories and our losses. I heard about his life with Pat, their shared achievements, their love of Smiths Falls, their philosophy of giving back. I heard about his own personal and professional stories and achievements of which there were many. He also frequently shared, with great pride, the achievements of his family, and especially those of his grandchildren.
Tom and I healed together and became great friends along the way. Over time, we became...chosen family. We went to events together as we began to socialize again. We helped each other. I stayed at his house when my new home build was delayed...six months! I supported him when health issues required some hands on help. We chatted by phone more recently when visits weren't possible. As always, he shared his pleasure of being thought of, offered strong opinions on the topic at hand, and showed his wisdom through his advice. He was...Tom.
We do not make friends as easily later in life ... I will truly miss this dear friend. ❤

Tom was one of the UNB Red Bomber’s most ardent supporters and was one of the Founders of the team that financed the return of football to UNB in 2009. Tom made numerous trips to Homecoming and continued to support the team every year. He was a kind and thoughtful mentor to the Board of the UNB Red Bombers Football Club. Tom would be in touch with the team several times a year to keep up with what was going on and how he could help. Our latest conversation was Nov. 30. On behalf of the UNB Red Bombers Football Club and from Tom’s entire Red Bombers family across the continent we offer our sincerest condolences to Tom’s family and hold on to our fond memories of Tom.

Tom was a friend and mentor. I will miss our long conversations about Rotary and Board matters we served. Despite his physical challenges of late he continued to be as active as he could to serve his community. Tom often reminisced about his life experiences and his wife Pat. I trust their spurts will reunite. Tom left an indelible mark in his community never to be forgotten.
