We remember Rick being so involved in your family & local baseball. And you were learning sign language. We are so blessed to have known Rick and had Him as our friend. Rick was kind, honest, generous, and courageous. His willingness and perserverance to overcome adversity was inspirational. He enhanced our lives and He will be missed by many. God’s Speed my friend, till we meet again.

.To Karen, Jennifer, Steven and Kathi-ann,
I am so sad to hear of Rick’s passing. I will always have fond memories of Rick as he was the very first person and neighbour that we meet when we moved to Perth way back in 1987..We were at what became our home for many years in Maple Glen with our realtor looking at the house..moving from Toronto we were so pleased to find the neighbourhood with signs of children everywhere .We were a young family looking to find our place to raise our children and we had all kinds of questions.Rick saw us and had no hesitation in coming over to introduce himself..I remember asking him if there was grass under the snow that was covering this wonderful big yard that was part of this property..he smiled and assured us that yes there was indeed a grass lawn beneath the snow..we had many wonderful years in Maple Glen getting to know Rick and Karen and family. As our children grew Steven became by far our children’s favourite babysitter...and my mother took many many photos of the flower garden that Karen and Rick had at the front of their home..so many memories, and so very great full that Rick took the time to come over and introduce himself to us all those years ago. Sending love and gratitude to all of you at this sad time.

To Karen, Jennifer, and the rest of Rick's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Rick had a very special place in my heart. I worked with him for many years at Lennox GS. He was such a great person, and so thoughtful. I am honoured to have worked with him and gotten to know him. Right now I am looking at a small wooden angel that he gave to me after he had recovered from an illness and returned to work. He said I was his "guardian angel". I don't think that was true, but always appreciated the thought. My condolences to all of you. I am truly sorry he has left all of you. Too soon! Wanda Amey.

My acquaintance with Rick was a brief one.
Three years ago I was invited to join Rick and other Perth snowbirds to play golf in Clermont Florida. On more than one occasion I enjoyed a round within Rick's foursome.
The most memorable occasion was at the 8th hole, par 3 hole on the Swiss Fairways course.Rick hit a laser like shot with what I think was a 7 wood. The ball hit the green, rolled and rolled and rolled and finally disappeared. Needles to say an enthusiastic celebration of the ace ensued.
My thoughts go out to Karen and all the Cole family for a life of a good guy taken too soon.

My condolences to Karen and the family. Rick was a big part of my life in baseball. I’ll never forget the great times we had in 95 when he Harry and Paul coached us at the Canadian Championships. He volunteered countless hours of his time to give us a chance to become the best ball players we could be and he was so very proud of our many accomplishments. A kind supportive mentor and friend. I had the chance to spend more time with him a couple of years ago when he umpired little league games and now I was the coach, he was so proud of me for carrying on the tradition of giving back to kids of Perth and District Little League. I will miss our chats about baseball. Thanks for taking the time to do what you did for me and many kids. You will be missed..I’ll never forget the summer of 95. Always a Royal. RIP Coach.

Dearest Karen, Jennifer, Steven, Kathi-Anne and Families,
My sincere sympathies in the loss of Rick. He was such a kind, gentle man. I have many fun, fond memories spent at the curling club with Rick and Karen. I remember going to playoffs to watch Rick and his competitive team in playoffs in Perth and Smiths Falls. There were a lot of cheerleaders! All around, great memories! My boys spent many hours with their children and loved when Jennifer babysat. Todd and Shaun also send their deepest condolences to all. We have fond memories in our house of Rick. I was always so envious that Rick and Karen allowed Jen to have her own phone line. I spend many weekends at the Cole residence and always felt so welcome.
