Cathy,
Just learned of your mom’s passing and had to let you know what wonderful memories I have of your parents who were such good friends with my parents. I too remember those days of dinner dances in Perth and seeing all the ladies in their fancy attire (long dresses and furs). Your mom was such a warm and friendly person, always making sure to say hi to a little kid who was trying to peak in on all the adults as they had a drink before going off to the dances! Sue Ronald

Thank you Sue. I was looking for a photo this morning and came across one which I think was from Sue and John's wedding. You Mom has the biggest beehive hairdo I have seen. It certainly topped my Mom's LOL. Florence and Howard, Vince and Joyce and Ralph are in it as well. Wish I could share it here. I will add to photos above. Cheers, Cathy

Cathy your mom was a special woman. I will always remember Christmas mornings on McLean Blvd. When we would look out our curtains and see if you and Greg were awake before Lyn and I. Your mom was always so happy to see us at your house when we came to play as youngsters. I did visit with your Mom at Lanark Lodge one Sunday about 2 years ago after visiting my uncle. Your mom was happy to see me and wanted to know where my mom was. Mom always considered her a special friend. I know you will miss her.

Thank you Susan. We had to wait until we saw lights at your house before we could open our presents. Some years you and Lynn slept in until 5 am. That caused some anxious time for me waiting for you sleepy heads to get up. Also remember a golf tournament. We did really well. Your were first, I was second in our field of two. Maude Siddall made us do it LOL. Your Mom made me eat a tomato; another childhood trauma.

Kate, Larry and family we are saddened to hear of Edith‘s passing. I have wonderful memories of Tom and Edith. The Hansen’s and the Burchell‘s have a lot of history together. From growing up in Perth, the ‘Rideau’, Barron River hunt camp and Vero Beach, Fla. Edith worried about us when we backpacked through Europe and when we ‘studied’ in Ottawa. She was always a good sport whether it was fishing, golfing, horse racing or chaperoning us on our trip to expo ‘67. Thanks for the memories Edith. You will be missed by all.

Edith loved the Blue Jays (the ball team, not the birds). She would often phone after a victory to discuss (but, never after a loss). I PVR the games so I can watch a bit later - skip commercials and really slow pitchers. Anyway, when the phone would ring on a summer afternoon and I saw her number, I'd know that the Jays had won - no need to waste time watching the rest of the game. Ah, she could make you smile.

Bill and I played golf with Edith at Carefree, Florida. After a dismal round for me, at the ninth hole, I finally drove my tee shot air bound rather than a worm burner shot as I had for 8 holes. Instead of a congrats from Edith she called my shot a “sucker shot”. Seeing dismay on my face she explained. That’s the shot that will keep you coming back to play golf!” What a brilliant and caring lady!!! She will be greatly missed.

I am flooded with memories but one comes to mind -Tom my fishing guide decides we should head out (mid morning) say 4 am to see if that ol smasher can be caught -just wake me he says if light not on so after not sleeping a wink i head down the hill walk inside the house (darker than the inside of a cow) find the bedroom and pull on the foot sticking out -all of a sudden there is a scream (how was i to know Edie slept on the left side)-when the lights went on she was looking at an 8 year old kid with a six foot fishing pole-i guess it had slipped Tom's mind to let her know - great memories -Rob

Cathy: You were a very devoted daughter. I am proud to have these keepsakes you gave me of Edith's. In honour of Edith I have placed a memorial to Lanark Lodge. The care here is wonderful. I too will sit with others that need companionship. I also enjoyed looking at the picture you posted...the Edith I remember from years ago.
Your kindness and your mother's presence will never be forgotten.

Thank you for that memory Rob. I seem to recall a camping/fishing trip where after arrival and set up, you sunk a fishing lure into Dad's head. No problem, just cover the barbs sticking out so they don't catch on his pillow. Fished on and stopped at hospital on way home couple of days later
and had it removed. When men were men. Something to do with an electric boat motor also comes to mind.

Dear Cathy- So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. You won't remember me, but I remember all of you. Your Mom was such a lady. She and your Dad were very good friends with my Mom and Dad (jim and Annie Girdwood). Your Dad was such a tease and you could just see the devil in his eye when he was teasing you. Greg always reminded me so much of him. Enjoy your memories, and smile.

Thank you for sharing your memories. I too have memories of the cottage at Otty Lake. For a child it was a cross between Swiss Family Robinson and Heidi. Imagine a place with a playhouse, with a loft and a pond with fish. It was magic. I also remember the "list." Jim and Annie had a list of the essentials you needed to take to go camping. I think there were 100 items. Dad so enjoyed fishing with Jim and Mom and Dad considered your Mom an Dad as very dear friends.
