When we moved to Canada in 1978 the Schilkes (including nephew Detmar) were among our first friends, and Wald helped me to get one of my first summer jobs.
I also remember him challenging me to join him in swimming from the beach at SLWC across the lake to Ben's and then run back around to the camp. I made it - but only because I couldn't stand the thought of someone 22 years my senior showing me up.
