Obituary of Elsie Eileen Foster

Caldwell/Foster, Elsie
January 14, 1929 - August 18, 2023

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the family of Elsie (nee Darou)  Foster/Caldwell announce the passing of our beloved Mother. Predeceased by her husband and our father, Carmen Caldwell and second husband, Archie Foster, she is fondly remembered and loved by her children, Janice (Alex Taylor, deceased), Jim (Debbie) and Barry (Teresa Gardner); Grandchildren, Andrea (deceased), Alicia,(deceased), Andrew, David, Krista, Dana, Jason, Jocelyn, Shannon and nine Great Grandchildren.

Elsie was born in Lanark in 1929 to Charles and Ida Darou.  She married our Dad, Carmen Caldwell and moved to a farm at Tatlock. She worked at Glenayr Knit in Lanark and had many friends from those days.  She was also the Treasurer and Clerk of the Township of Darling. She completed correspondence courses and secured a Position as Deputy Clerk for the Town of Perth. She was well respected and loved by all who knew and worked with her. Following retirement she set up the gift shop and volunteered at the Perth Hospital in several capacities. She loved quilting,  making preserves, reading, politics, dancing and loved to learn. She was an intelligent, strong woman who loved her family, always putting their needs first. She had a wicked sense of humour  as all who knew her were aware.  Her grandchildren have numerous funny and fond stories of GG’s escapades. She was the rock in our family, will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

Services will be held Wednesday August 23rd, 2023 at 1:30 P.M. at Clayton United Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with family members.  The family wish to thank the staff at Willowdale Chartwell in Smiths Falls and Perth Community Care for their wonderful care and compassion.   In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation (Perth Site) .  Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors, Perth.
