Dear Dwyer Family,
Over a lifetime one meets people who are very much "their own man or woman". They know who they are and why, and don't follow the crowd. They are not people pleasers, but they often have big hearts for people. Dennis was of this stripe, and I admired him very much for it. I assure you I held him in high regard and appreciated him very much.
In my view, Dennis was a very good listener; he would hear you out and ask probing questions. He had time for people, from all walks of life, and I cannot every remember him showing partiality to any. He treated all fairly, often gave the benefit of the doubt, and had a fine sense of humour. He gave me much wise counsel and thoughtful friendship. He and Sue opened their hearts and home to more people than I will ever know, and this over so many decades. It was an honour for me to follow him as chaplain of the Royal Montreal Regiment, and to serve under him when he was Brigade chaplain.
My deepest condoleances to your family, and my thanks to you for sharing Dennis with us. May God give you his deep comfort, much thankfulness for Dennis' life, and a sense of joy and purpose as you carry on the Dwyer name in this generation.
Warmly,
John Garnet Zoellner
