Eddie’s Song
A cousin, a brother, an uncle, a friend
You were that and much more to me.
A legend in your own time
As we all can clearly see
When I think of you, I think of things,
Like compassion, love, and care.
If there was a need, we would know, just one call.
And you would be on your way there.
You were always part of our lives,
From Toronto to Montreal.
Though some of the absolute best of times
Were in St. Bridget’s Hall.
Here is just one memory,
I’d like to share with you.
A trailer stage in Stewart Park
The sky was bright and blue.
I remember that Dad was teasing you,
And giving you the gears
For not getting through those sad songs
Without shedding a few tears
And yes, when you were on the stage,
They flowed, as mine did too.
And Dad? He made it through the song,
Singing straight at you
You were like his younger brother
And in other ways his son
And with admiration and respect
He’d have that little “fun.”
I guess that what I am trying to say,
Is it’s like losing him again.
In my heart you hold a special place,
More than music, more than friend
And for those who have never seen your heart
I will give them just a take,
You are known as chipmunk saver,
To the littles at the lake
How you would trap them in the garden
Where they are sure to be a pest
And bring them to the lake,
To find their perfect nest
Generations love you, and they know
You are a very special man.
You will always be a part of me,
I will always be your fan.
You’ve left a big hole in my heart.
So, I turn back the pages of time.
And as I reflect on all the days of my life,
I’m so glad you were part of mine!
Love always! Sandy

I didn't know Eddie on a personal basis but my father spoke very highly of him and enjoyed the time they spent together playing music and recording music. My father Freddy Dixon would have been deeply saddened by the passing of Eddie. But at this time my father had passed prior to Eddie passing and our deep condolences from Dixon family to Ashton family. Rest in Paradise Ed ...

I'm so sorry to learn of Eddie's passing. A couple of years ago I had heard that he was not well and it made me think of the last conversation I had with Eddie. The last time that we spoke was at Aunt Anne's funeral. The time before that was at my cousin Allan's funeral. He commented that "the only time we seem to get to see each other is at family funerals, and unfortunately we are always one less when that happens." Sadly, we are less one again. Eddie was such a likeable guy. A funny story... About 15 years ago, I took a trip to the Dominican. At breakfast one morning, 2 ladies sitting nearby struck up a conversation. We talked about where we had travelled from. Turned out they were from Westport. We got to chatting about who we were related to. As soon as I said my family is the Fournier's and Kerr's, one of the ladies asked if I was related to Eddie. She only had the nicest things to say and talked about how much she enjoyed his music. Since that moment, it has happened 2 more times with clients of mine. When asked where my family is from, Eddie's name came up and they only had the kindest of words about his gentle demeanor and musical talents. He will be greatly missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him. Our deepest sympathies.
