Obituary of Ed Ashton

Ashton, Edward (“Ed”, “Eddie”) Alphonsus

After a 2 year struggle with Mesothelioma, Eddie passed away peacefully in the Perth Hospital on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024. He is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Phillis (nee Thompson) and his daughter Mandy. He was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Anna (nee Kerr) Ashton and by his Mother-in-law Lillian Thompson. He is survived by his brother Robert of Brockville and deeply missed by his sister Beverley (Eric) Falkenberg of Tincap, and their children, Ryan (Perm) and Debra. Eddie will be fondly remembered by his Father-in-law Howard (Doris) Thompson, and by Laura (Wayne), Mildred (Mark), Wilda (Laurie), Morris (Delores), Donna (Doug), Doug (Julie) and Jewel, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Eddie worked as an electrician most of his life and eventually settled at Albany International in Perth where he retired after 27 years. He had a lifelong passion for all kinds of music, learned to play many different instruments over the years, and gained many friends along the way playing at gigs here and there most weekends. He was always available to donate his time and equipment for any worthy cause in the area and quick to help repair a fellow musician’s faulty items. His kindness and gentle manner will be missed.

Phillis and Mandy wish to thank all of the medical teams that offered comfort and hope to Eddie during his illness, especially the incredible and hard-working staff at GWM Perth. Special thanks to Dr. Drummond for being there for us in our time of need and for 40 years of dedicated care for Eddie.

Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. Perth, on Sunday, March 10th, 2024 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. A Celebration of Eddie’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 244, 26 Beckwith St E, Perth, on Monday, March 11th, 2024 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Eddie leaves with this final thought…..

“To all of my friends and family, I thank you for being part of my life,

and for allowing me to be part of yours.”
