Obituary of Dane Vaclav Dagenais
Beloved son/stepson of David and Diane Dagenais, cherished brother of Amber Last (Charlie) and Madison Dagenais (Derek), and uncle to Grace, Levon, and Emmett. Dane is pre-deceased by his mother, Dana Dagenais (née Hrebacka).
Dane was a happy, smiley kid, always eager to learn and explore. His curiosity and deep love of reading set him apart as an exceptionally gifted student, and he excelled throughout his high-school years. He went on to pursue a degree in Bio-Medical Science at Western University, where his hard work earned him a spot on the Dean’s List.
Though Dane sometimes struggled to relate to his peers, he found meaningful connections with those who shared his interests. His friendships, though few, were deep and lasting, built on shared passions, intense discussions, and a unique sense of humor that brought laughter to those around him. He found a true community among his online and gaming friends - people who, like him, valued wit and creativity.
Dane had many talents, and he was always eager to share his love for things that made him laugh and think. Whether it was his appreciation for quirky humor from shows like Kids In The Hall and Red Green, his eclectic taste in music spanning everything from video game scores to They Might Be Giants, The Barenaked Ladies, Pachelbel, and Death Cab for Cutie, his incredible imagination and talent as a Dungeon Master, or his artistic ability that shone through in his beautiful drawings, Dane’s creativity touched the lives of those who knew him. Dane also had a beautiful singing voice and sang in his university’s choir.
He had a great work ethic and was always gainfully employed, most recently doing technical support for banks and cable companies.
In past years, Dane loved biking, camping, and canoeing, with some treasured memories coming from canoe trips through Algonquin Park with his father and grandmother.
Dane was a deeply thoughtful individual, often reflecting on life’s bigger questions, particularly following the loss of his mother. As an adult, he struggled to find happiness and meaning in his life.
Dane’s quick wit, quiet nature, and deep conversations will be missed by all who knew him. He was hard to reach and hard to hold, but Dane is now being held tightly in his mother’s arms. He will be missed forever.
A private service will be held in February.
