My deepest sympathy at this time to your family. I highly respected both of your parents.
Ruth's pleasant nature could be felt each time I met her at the hospital. Little chats at church or on the street were pleasant.
Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
May peace remain with her family.
Sincerely,Debbie Wilson

I'm so sorry for your loss. The last time I visited your parents, Glenn opened the door and said; "Oh no, now there's two Achesons to gang up on me!" I had a home made date square and thanked Ruth again for that letter from Wally to her, written from Tokyo. It was a pleasant time. Glenn didn't even lecture me.
Your cousin,
George

waiting at Heaven's Door
Waiting at Heaven's Door - Helen Steiner Rice
Death beckoned her with outstretched hand
And whispered softly of an unknown land,
But she was not afraid to go
For though the path she did not know
She took death's hand without a fear
For God who safely brought her here
Had promised He would lead the way
Into eternity's bright day.
For none of us need go alone
Into the valley that is unknown,
But, guided by our Father's hand
We journey to the promised land.
She was your special loving Mother
You shared your lives with one another,
And you'll find comfort for your grief
In knowing her death brought sweet relief.
For, now she is free from all suffering and pain
And your great loss became her gain...
You know that her love is with you still
For she loved you in life and always will.
Love like hers can never end
Because it is the perfect blend
Of joy and sorrows, smiles and tears,
That just grew stronger with the years.
Love like hers can never die
For she's taken it with her to the sky...
So think of Mum as living above
No farther away than your undying love,
For now she is happy and free once more
And she's waiting for you at Heaven's door.

my mother kept a garden
My Mother Kept A Garden - Unknown
My Mother kept a garden.
A garden of the heart;
She planted all the good things,
That gave my life it's start.
She turned me to the sunshine,
And encouraged me to dream:
Fostering and nurturing
The seeds of self-esteem.
And when the winds and rains came,
She protected me enough;
But not too much, she knew I'd need
To stand up strong and tough.
Her constant good example,
Always taught me right from wrong;
Markers for my pathway
To last my whole life long.
I am my Mother's garden,
I am her legacy.
And I hope today she feels the love,
Reflected back from me.

My Mother
Ruth was born in Hamilton to Irish immigrant parents, one of her sisters, Annabelle was born in Ireland. She was the youngest child, her brother Wallace was 7 years older, and her sister Dorothy was 14 years older. Annabelle passed away at 13 years of age, before Ruth was born. Ruth’s father passed away when Ruth was 10 years old. She lived on the family farm outside Brockville until high school, when her widowed mother moved into Brockville, Ruth was very close to her mother. She lived with her mother until her marriage to Glenn, Ruth was totally devoted to Glenn. Ruth was very close to her beloved sister Dorothy and her niece and nephew, twins, John and Jean. Ruth wore a salmon pink gabardine suit as her "going away” outfit after her wedding, Sheila wore the same suit as a bridesmaid at Greg’s wedding.
After marriage, Glenn and Ruth moved to Cardinal, Ontario where Glenn taught school. Daughter, Maureen was born and the little family moved to Perth, in 1954, where Glenn took the principal position at The Stewart School.
They went on to have two more much loved children Greg and Sheila. Ruth built her life around her children and husband.
Ruth enjoyed many clubs and social groups in Perth. Ruth was a tireless volunteer in the community. She belonged to the UCW, Rebekah Lodge, bowling league, Bridge Club, Church Couples Club, Brownie leader, Lomband Glen Golf club, Perth Curling Club, she cross-country skied on the golf course in the winter, took her pre-schoolers public skating. Ruth learned to swim at 50 years of age at the Perth indoor pool. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and a hospital volunteer at the information desk, she canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society and sold daffodils, always available to help cater church events.
Ruth loved and enjoyed her Irish heritage, Irish music, which she played on the accordion to entertain her family.
Ruth loved her pets, all her life she had a house pet, mostly small dogs, and the occasional cat.
Ruth loved to travel, after retirement, they travelled to Scotland, England, Ireland, Florida, Dominican Republic, Missouri, and the Bahamas. Ruth loved shopping especially in Toronto and Ottawa.
Ruth enjoyed an active social life, entertaining a core group of other couples, house parties, cottage parties, playing Euchre, dances at the Legion, Masonic dinners, Curling bonspiels.
The family bought a cottage on Otty Lake in 1966, Ruth enjoyed relaxing and entertaining at the cottage, it was very special family time since Glenn did not work in the summer, and the family moved to the cottage at the end of June and went back to town Labour Day.
Ruth loved doing handicrafts, knitting, crocheting, sewing dresses for herself and her daughters. As her son-in-laws can attest, Ruth loved to bake desserts, and always had an assortment of cookies, squares and tarts in the freezer. Ruth always made our favourite foods if she knew we would be visiting, butterscotch pie, pumpkin pie. One year, Ruth took a Chinese cooking class, and enjoyed trying new recipes. She was a traditional Irish cook, soggy vegetables and overdone meat.
Ruth was thrilled to become a grandmother in 1982, and went on to be Nanny to seven wonderful and precious grandchildren spanning 17 years. She was always available to babysit, sometimes for weeks at a time (Thanks Nanny), she would travel to her children’s houses when new babies arrived, leaving Glenn to fend for himself. If not needed for baby care, she would do laundry, cook, clean and bake for her daughters.
She spoiled us all in her special way. Mom always had time for her children and grandchildren. Ruth lost her soul-mate one month ago, and now will be re-united with Glenn. As the saying goes "Behind every good man is an amazing woman”.
